The employees of KazMunayGas – Refining and Marketing JSC (KMG-RM) have completed the first training session as part of “The course of Lean Six Sigma Green Belts”

The employees of KMG-RM, Atyrau Oil Refinery (AOR), Pavlodar Oil and Chemistry Refinery (POCR), PetroKazakhstan Oil Products (PKOP), KazMunaiGas Onimderi and JV CASPI BITUM LLP undertook the first session of the training “Green Belts Lean Six Sigma” in Almaty from 26th September to 30th September, 2016.

It may be noted that the Lean Six Sigma program is being implemented at the group companies of KMG-RM to reduce the cost of production, to optimize operational costs and to improve the quality of outputs.

Lean Six Sigma is a method of process management and is based on evaluation of statistical data, facts, and processes. It involves the systematic search and development of measures to improve the quality of finished products, their consistent implementation and subsequent analysis of the precision of processes to increase customer satisfaction.

The training program includes not only the theoretical knowledge of employees but also the practical aspects of implementation of concrete projects to improve the quality of the process and/or products in the workplace. For instance, an employee selects any problematic issue in the company, develops an action plan according to the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control) principle, gets them approved by the project sponsor (company’s management) and implements the Lean Six Sigma project in the production process. Only after successfully defending the project, the employee receives the “Green Belt Lean Six Sigma” qualification.

Upon completion of the training, the trainees will be able to develop projects in the field of production using these concepts. This will help to achieve a desired production with minimal costs in the shortest possible time and at the same time, maintain a high level of quality. In addition, the Lean Six Sigma program will help to strengthen the economic and financial position of the company and will also provide an opportunity to invest further in refinery production base stations. The program goes in a long way to improve the working conditions and increase the motivation of employees and workers at KMG-PM.
