Kazakhstan Extends Investment Cooperation with Qatar Leading Companies

“Samruk-Kazyna” JSC held a meeting of the Kazakh – Qatari Business Council in Qatar.

The event was attended by representatives of government, CEOs of major Kazakh and Qatari companies, government agencies, and financing institutions.

The Kazakh delegation was led by the First Deputy Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov. In addressing the Business Council, he noted the importance of private sector engagement for expanding and deepening relations between Kazakhstan and Qatar. 

Samruk-Kazyna CEO Almassadam Satkaliyev noted that business cooperation between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the State of Qatar had entered a qualitatively new stage.

The head of Samruk-Kazyna outlined the prospects to expand strategic partnerships.

- First, investment cooperation with the Qatar Investment Authority Fund on energy, infrastructure, agriculture, commercial real estates, and privatization; 

- Secondly, multilateral cooperation in achieving major projects for mining, industry and infrastructure, construction, tourism, and agro-technology; 

- Thirdly, cooperation on socially relevant issues - culture, education, medicine, and health care.

Focusing on trade and economic cooperation CEO of Fund stresses that Qatar is a significant financial partner.

 At present, Qatar partners support three projects in the amount of US$125 million in Kazakhstan.

- Construction of perinatal care center in Almaty with the participation of Qatar Development Bank 

- Project to upgrade the infrastructure of the Combat Training Centre with the participation of Barzan Holdings 

- Al Rayan Investment established a fintech bank in AIFC 

Representatives of industry associations and major companies addressed the event. Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Obaidi Co-Chair of the Kazakh – Qatari Business Council from the Qatari side, voiced support for joint investment projects with Samruk-Kazyna.
