The Commission of the Ministry of Health and Social Development of Kazakhstan, responsible for bestowing the award, named the Shymkent Oil Refinery (SOR) to be the best in the nomination “Contribution to Environment.”

The award ceremony took place in the framework of the Industrialization Day with the participation of Head of State Nursultan Nazarbayev in the capital’s “Kazmedia Ortalygy.” The award was given to Vice-President of development and modernization of “PKOP” Aslan Mynbayev from the hands of Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Bakhytzhan Sagintayev.

The company was praised for the activities of the whole staff.

“PetroKazakhstan Oil Products LLP” pays great attention to the improvement of the environmental management. In 2009 the company implemented the international standard of environmental management: ISO 14001:2004. In 2015, according to the results of the audit, it was decided to confirm the certificate of compliance management system requirements of ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004, OHSAS 18001:2007.

The company has a system for monitoring emissions of pollutants into the environment (air, water and land resources, vegetation, snow cover, the radiation situation) and the state of natural environment. In addition, the refinery constantly conducts bioremediation of contaminated sites including its own premises. Recycling of secondary refining waste - oil sludge and pyrophoric compounds has been also introduced.

Also PKOP signed a memorandum on the social responsibility of business in the region for improvement and gardening of the city and district. Each year, refinery’s workers are planting trees at PKOP’s sanitary protection zone. This year, they planted 908 seedlings.

For information, the environmental policy of the refinery had once been rewarded by a Presidential Award back in 2011. “PetroKazakhstan Oil Products LLP” was awarded the “Paryz” in the nomination “Contribution to Environment.”
