Samruk-Kazyna is developing Low Carbon Development programs.

A series of meetings were held with portfolio companies, were discussed the strategic vision and decarbonization indicators. The Fund's management reviewed the Energy Transition Strategy of the "KazMunayGas," "Samruk Energy," "KazTransGas," "Kazatomprom," "UCC," "Tau-Ken Samruk," "Kazpost," "Kazakhtelekom," and "Air Astana," whose activities have a significant impact on the environment.

The company's key initiatives promote replacing coal generation, gas and hydropower development, development of new capacity based on alternative energy sources, construction of RES for own consumption, capture and storage technologies, and landscaping activities.

Additional financial tools, including green bonds, are being considered for funding climate projects. Fund's management had identified sustainable development as one of the critical areas.

Reducing a company's carbon footprint increases the long-term value of assets and investment attractiveness for the realization of large infrastructure projects.

Samruk-Kazyna CEO Almassadam Satkaliyev noted there should be an integrated and balanced approach to environment and development, full digital implementation, and assess the impact of the action undertaken on economic performance.
During the hearing, the portfolio companies were commissioned to establish a plan detailing low-carbon development.
The results of the ongoing relevant work will reduce the carbon footprint of Fund's portfolio companies for achieving carbon neutrality.

The shift to a low-carbon economy is one of the global issues that require urgent solutions. President Tokayev enshrined the goal of carbon neutrality by 2060, in addition to the actions taken by the Republic of Kazakhstan to lessen its commitment to reducing 15% greenhouse gas emissions between 1990 and 2030.
