The Kazakhstan - China railway modernization project to have been launched

Today, a solemn ceremony on the launch of a project for modernization of the Dostyk-Moynty railway section with a length of 836 km was held under the chairmanship of Alikhan Smailov, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The management of Samruk-Kazyna JSC, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC, the Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development, Deputy Akim of Karaganda region and Akim of Balkhash participated in this event.

Dostyk station is located in Almaty region on the border of Kazakhstan and China, and Moynty is a station in Karaganda region on the railway from Astana to Almaty and Shymkent.  

The Dostyk–Moynty section is single-track, 100% loaded and has no capacity reserves. The construction of the second track will increase the capacity by 5 times and increase the speed of container trains from 834 to 1500 km/day.

On a global scale, the Dostyk-Moynty section is an important part of the transit railway corridor from Europe to China. In 2016-2020, the volume of container traffic through Kazakhstan increased by 5 times. The expansion of the corridor will provide uninterrupted export of Kazakhstan products and increase the transit potential of the country.

For information: The cost of the project is KZT543 billion. The planned completion date is the end of 2025. Over 3,700 people will be involved in the construction, and 500 permanent jobs will be created after the line is completed. Kazakh-made materials will be used in the construction, the share of domestic goods will be 85%.
