A meeting of the management of Samruk-Kazyna with representatives of the French atomic energy company Électricité de France (EDF) took place in Astana today.
Yernat Berdigulov, the Managing Director of the Fund, and Timur Zhantikin, the Head of Kazakhstan Nuclear Power Plants LLP, participated in it. The French side was represented by Vakis Ramani, Senior Vice President of EDF for the Development of New International Nuclear Projects and Marie-Agnes Bersch, the Director for Commercial Development of New International Nuclear Projects.
The EDF’s proposal with a modern EPR1200 reactor is included in the shortlist of potentially considered reactor technologies for a future nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan. There are also three other proposals on the list: China’s CNNC, Korea’s KHNP and Russia’s Rosatom. The analysis of applications and selection of a supplier is in progress.
Samruk-Kazyna and EDF discussed the status of the NPP project in Kazakhstan and prospects for cooperation. Yernat Berdigulov noted the interest of the Kazakh side in the experience and competencies of EDF in the construction and operation of new nuclear power plants.
