From October 14 to 17, 2024, the delegation of Samruk-Kazyna JSC headed by Nurlan Zhakupov, the Chairman of the Management Board, has been on a visit to the People’s Republic of China.

Nurlan Zhakupov, the Head of Samruk-Kazyna JSC met with the Chairman of the Management Board of China Energy International Group, Lyu Ze Xiang, in Beijing. The parties discussed issues of cooperation on energy projects, including in the field of renewable energy sources.

On July 02, 2024, the Fund and China Energy Overseas Investment (a subsidiary of China Energy International Group) have signed a memorandum of understanding in the field of renewable energy sources on the sidelines of the Kazakh-Chinese Business Council in Astana.

At the last meeting, the parties represented by Kairat Maxutov, the the Chairman of the Management Board of Samruk-Energy JSC, and Lin Xiao Dan, the Chairman of the Management Board of China Energy Overseas Investment Company - also signed the project joint development agreement involving the construction of a 500 MW WPS in Karaganda region and a 300 MW SPP in Turkestan region.

China Energy International Group is the world’s largest company in the field of coal mining, thermal energy, wind energy, coal processing and water industry.

Also in Beijing, Nurlan Zhakupov held a meeting with Mr. Zhou Fugui, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sany Renewable Energy. Earlier, during the Kazakh-Chinese Business Council, an agreement was signed with SANY Renewable on the joint development of a project to localize the production of components for wind power plants (blades, gondolas, towers). The parties discussed the current status of the project implementation.

“This year we are already holding the fourth high-level meeting in both China and Kazakhstan, which once again underlines the strategic nature of our cooperation,” the Head of the Fund said during the meeting.

Sany Renewable Energy (a subsidiary of Sany Group) is one of the largest manufacturers of wind turbines in the world.

Nurlan Zhakupov, the Chairman of the Management Board of Samruk-Kazyna JSC, also met with the Yang Changli, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of SGNPC. The parties discussed issues of cooperation in the field of nuclear energy.

Kazatomprom, the Fund’s portfolio company, and CGN have been cooperating for 20 years, jointly developing the Semizbai and Ortalyk fields in Kazakhstan.

In addition, the Kazakh-Chinese plant, Ulba-TVS LLP, produces fuel assemblies (FAs) for Chinese nuclear power plants. FAs are fuel for a nuclear reactor. High-tech production was launched in November 2021.

The launch of innovative production has allowed Kazakhstan to enter a restricted number of states-manufacturers and suppliers of nuclear fuel for nuclear power plants.

China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGNPC) is a nuclear holding company of the People’s Republic of China operating in the field of nuclear energy.

The leadership of Samruk-Kazyna JSC and the Chinese National Nuclear Corporation CNNC discussed the cooperation in the field of nuclear energy. Nurlan Zhakupov, the Head of the Fund, engaged in discussion with Yu Jianfeng, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of CNNC.

China National Nuclear Corporation, or CNNC, is a large energy holding company in the field of nuclear energy, with access to the full nuclear fuel cycle. Kazatomprom, the Fund’s portfolio company, and CNNC are long-term partners in the field of natural uranium supplies.

In addition, Nurlan Zhakupov, the Head of the Fund, hosted a meeting with Yang Bin, Board Chairman of Goldcard Smart Group, in Beijing. The parties discussed issues of cooperation, including the production of “smart” gas meters.

Goldcard Smart Group (Goldcard) is a large solutions provider for digitalization of public services, specializing in intelligent gas, water and hydrogen metering systems in China.
