On October 16, the ESG Global Leaders Conference has been held in Shanghai, organized by the Chinese investment corporation CITIC. Nurlan Zhakupov, the Chairman of the Management Board, delivered a welcome speech at the forum.

“Sustainable development is not the efforts of one company or one person, but rather a teamwork on creating a sustainable future for future generations. Being the flagship of the country’s economy, Samruk-Kazyna JSC has a strong focus on the ESG principles (Note: E - Environment, S - Social, G - Corporate Governance). We are working on all three parts of ESG, promoting the reduction of carbon emissions in production processes, which affects the E - environment aspect, zero tolerance for workplace injuries, as well as active support for charitable projects under the S - social aspect, as well as the development of processes and reports under the G - governance aspect,” - Zhakupov noted.

The Head of the Fund has supported the CITIC’s initiatives on bringing together forum participants to create a sustainable future.

Samruk-Kazyna JSC and CITIC Group signed a strategic cooperation agreement.

The document will strengthen partnerships in such areas as metals and mining, transport and logistics, infrastructure, natural gas and oil, and others.

The Fund and the Chinese conglomerate also intend to expand cooperation between subsidiaries on existing projects.

CITIC Group is a large state-owned conglomerate engaged in financial and banking activities, insurance, investments in industry and construction, energy, transport and telecommunications.

The heads of Samruk-Kazyna JSC and CITIC Group are co-chairs of the Kazakh-Chinese Business Council, which has been successfully functioning since 2013. The partnership between the companies has been developing for the past 17 years.
