Nurlan Zhakupov held a meeting with Mr. Wan Qizhou, Chairman of the Board of China International Water & Electric Corporation (CWE).

The parties discussed prospects for expanding cooperation in sustainable energy, water resources, and infrastructure projects.

As Zhakupov noted at the meeting, the activities of CWE in Kazakhstan are a striking example of the successful implementation of strategic projects in hydropower. In 2011, the Moynak HPP with a capacity of 300 MW was commissioned, and in 2021, the Turgusun HPP with a capacity of 24.9 MW was commissioned.

The construction of the first pumped storage power plant in Central Asia in Kazakhstan is an equally ambitious project on today’s agenda, N. Zhakupov noted.

Samruk-Energy JSC and CWE signed a joint venture agreement on the PSPP project on the sidelines of the Central Asia-China Forum. The agreement defines the format of cooperation during the feasibility study phase.
