Trans-Caspian International Transport Route was a key focus of the meeting. Last year, rail freight traffic along the route reached a historic high of 4.5 million tons, while the potential for Kazakhstan’s export cargo is estimated at up to 10 million tons per year.
In response to the growing container traffic along the route, KMTF, a subsidiary of KazMunayGas, and Abu Dhabi Ports (ADP) signed an agreement for the construction of container vessels. Following a tender process, the project will be implemented at the Baku Shipyard, which is part of AZCON Holding. By 2027, two container ships are expected to be built and delivered to the KMTF–ADP joint venture, CIMC.
The parties also reviewed the progress of the fiber-optic communication line project being constructed along the bottom of the Caspian Sea between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. The project is operated by Kazakhtelecom JSC and Azertelecom Int. LLC.
These joint initiatives aim to strengthen Kazakhstan’s position as a regional transit and digital hub, while also boosting its export potential and attracting investment.
