The modernization of Almaty CHPP-2 provides for the conversion of the station to natural gas, which will significantly improve the environmental situation in the city. After completion of the work in 2026, emissions will be reduced by almost 14 times — from 37.3 thousand tons to 2.7 thousand tons per year. The installed electric capacity will also increase from 510 to 557 MW.
