Today a new enclosed substation Turksib was put into operation in Almaty under the leadership of the Head of the Sovereign Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna Akhmetzhan Yessimov. The launch of the new power facility have made it possible to complete the Sustainable Electricity Supply Programme of Almaty, which began in 2008.

Turksib substation will increase the transformer capacity by 30 MVA and will deliver power to the central part of the Turksib district and new Zhas Kanat microdistrict built within the Affordable Housing programme, as well as the main part of Kairat microdistrict joined under the Interregional scheme of Almaty agglomeration until 2030.

Chairman of the Management Board of Samruk-Kazyna JSC Akhmetzhan Yessimov noted that considerable attention is paid to the regular power supply to the largest megapolis of the country and now the only task is to proper operate these capacities.

"One of the tasks given by the Head of State ten years ago was sustainable power supply of Almaty. Today, with the commissioning of the substation, this issue is completely resolved. The only task is the proper operation of these facilities, as more than KZT 20 billion has been invested and they should function normally,"Mr Yessimov noted.

It should be noted that after launching a substation, the thirty third in the series, the Power Supply Mapwithin the boundaries of Almaty will be completely painted in green, which means full power availability.

"If you remember, not long ago, 10 years ago there were rolling blackouts and emergency outages, unsustainable power supply, which hindered development of the city and the business, and in turn influenced social well-being," the Head of the Fund stressed.

During the business trip to Almaty, Akhmetzhan Yessimov visited power facilities of Alatau Zharyk Kompaniyasy JSC, which are important components of the sustainable development of the energy complex in the city. Mr Yessimov familiarized himself with the load transfer from substation 220/110/10 kV #131A Gornyi Gigant to substation 220/110/10-10 kV #160A Yermensay. This project is carried out due to the emerging risks of landslides in Gornyi Gigant substation area, which may lead to the destruction of the substation and the mass disconnection of consumers. In order to avoid emergency situations, it was decided to transfer loads from the substation Gornyi Gigant to the substation Yermensay.

The commissioning of Yermensay substation in 2011 was coincide with the 2011 Asian Winter Games in Almaty. The project on the load transfer is planned to be completed in 2018, after which the Gornyi Gigant substation will be liquidated.
