Head of State Visited Thermal Power Plant in Almaty

President  Kassym-Jomart Tokayev paid a working visit to Almaty thermal power plant-2, named after Aitkali Zhakutov. During the visit, the President got familiarized with constructing a combined cycle gas turbine with 600 Mwatt at the plant. 
Samruk-Kazyna CEO Almassadam Satkaliyev informed the Head of State that the plant's hazardous substances emissions would drop from 50,400 tones to 6,700 tones per year after the gas turbines' launch in 2026.

The time capsule laying ceremony symbolizing the start of construction works was held afterward.
Addressing the meeting, President Tokayev noted the construction of a new plant would launch the comprehensive modifications of the Almaty power complex. 
- In the next five years, accumulation in the Almaty region will ensure sustainable energy and heating. The very fact that the Head of State laid this capsule and gave rise to the work naturally entails a great responsibility in terms of the realization of the plans, said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The President has called upon the Samruk-Kazyna Top Management, city authorities, and staff of HEC-2 To implement all plans in terms and qualitatively execute its work. The Almaty region is one of the key economic centers in the country. That's why the President underscored the critical importance of this work.
– Most important, we will improve the environment and provide clean air. 
It's a priority for me. I promised the Almaty people that the Government would take the necessary action to give the city clean air on my part and my instructions. Indeed, for several years, the urban population has suffered from a less than healthy environment. We need to solve this problem once and for all - set the task of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The Head of State noted the symbolic significance of the project launching on the 30th anniversary of the independence of Kazakhstan.  I am sure that it will help restore Almaty to the greenest and cleanest city and improve the citizens' quality of life - the President concluded. In conclusion, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with the employees of HEC-2.
