Today, the management of Samruk-Kazyna and China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) have signed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation in the further implementation of the project of expansion and reconstruction of Ekibastuz GRES-2. 

According to the memorandum, the Fund undertakes to provide the necessary materials about the project and will work out issues related to the return on investment and the organization of project financing. 

The CMEC Group, for its part, intends to analyze the documentation and develop solutions related to the terms, conditions of manufacture, supply of equipment and implementation of the project as a whole.  

Earlier, representatives of the CMEC Group had already visited GRES-2, a member of the Samruk-Energy structure, inspected the construction site of the 3rd power unit and got acquainted with the information provided about the project.

CMEC specializes in the construction of energy facilities in the field of generation, transmission and distribution.  
When creating GRES-2 in the 1980s, the construction of 8 power units was envisaged. After the launch of two of them in 1993, further expansion of the station was suspended.
