Butadiene LLP and Sinopec Guangzhou Engineering have signed an EPC contract, opening a new stage in the implementation of a strategic petrochemical project in Kazakhstan.

The Butadiene project is implemented with the support of the Government of Kazakhstan in the territory of the National Industrial Petrochemical Technopark SEZ.

It is planned to build a plant with a capacity of over 300 thousand tons of products per year. About 750 permanent jobs will be created.

The plant will produce five types of products in demand in the petrochemical and tire industries:

Butadiene is a key component for synthetic rubbers

Styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) is used in road surfaces, adhesives, plastics, etc.

Divinyl-styrene synthetic rubber

Methyl tret-butyl ether (MTBE) is an additive for increasing the octane number of gasoline

Isobutane-isobutylene fraction - raw materials for the production of MTBE, butyl rubber, isoprene, etc.

Commissioning is scheduled for 2029.

Butadiene is an inportant component for the production of synthetic rubber and polymers in demand in the automotive industry, construction and other industries. The implementation of the project will allow Kazakhstan to develop deep processing of hydrocarbons, reduce import dependence, increase exports of high-value-added products and create new jobs.

The project is implemented by Butadiene LLP, in which 100% belongs to the subsidiary of Samruk-Kazyna JSC, Samruk-Kazyna Ondeu.
