At a meeting of the Public Council of Samruk-Kazyna JSC, chaired by Bolat Zhamishev, KEGOC and Samruk-Energy presented updates on their preparations for the 2026–2027 autumn-winter period.
As Bakytzhan Taubayev, Managing Director of the Fund, noted, the Fund’s portfolio companies successfully navigated the previous heating season, with no critical issues affecting electricity or gas supplies.

However, peak electricity demand during the upcoming season could reach 18.2 GW, up from 17.7 GW last winter.
KEGOC: National Power Grid Ready for the Heating Season
Nabi Aitzhanov, Chairman of the Management Board of KEGOC JSC, reported that the company had completed all scheduled maintenance work at 589 facilities across the National Power Grid. On 2 October, KEGOC received its readiness certificate for the 2026–2027 heating season.
During the upcoming autumn-winter period, peak electricity demand is expected to increase by 3.4%, while electricity generation is projected to grow by 3.1%, he noted.

The largest increase in demand is expected in the Southern Zone of Kazakhstan’s power system. Peak demand in the region could reach 5,100 MW, an increase of 700 MW compared with the previous season. With the planned commissioning of new capacity, local generation is expected to reach approximately 2,800 MW. The remaining capacity shortfall will be covered by power flows through the North–East–South transit corridor.
Samruk-Energy Nears Completion of Its Maintenance Programme
The group’s energy facilities are scheduled to undergo maintenance on 111 major equipment units, including 19 major overhauls, five extended repairs and 87 routine repairs. The programme covers power units, boilers, turbines, transmission lines, substations and heating networks, said Kairat Maksutov, Chairman of the Management Board of Samruk-Energy.
The company also plays a key role in the development of Kazakhstan’s energy sector. Of the 26.4 GW of new generation capacity planned nationwide by 2035, Samruk-Energy is expected to account for nearly half.
Following the meeting, the participants emphasised the importance of completing all preparatory work on schedule and ensuring the reliable, uninterrupted operation of energy facilities throughout the heating season.
