Samruk-Kazyna JSC and Eni discussed the prospects of cooperation in implementation of the energy transition in Kazakhstan. The management of the companies met in Nur-Sultan.

Almassadam Satkaliyev, the CEO of Samruk-Kazyna JSC, noted the strategic nature of cooperation with Eni, and spoke about the large-scale reform program of the Fund with account of the ESG principles.

The Eni representatives stated that due to the current situation on the gas market, which is a critical element for the energy transition, exporters have good opportunities to attract investment.

At the same time, Eni supports and is ready to contribute to the country’s decarbonization plan, also by reducing emissions from the Kashagan and Karachaganak fields, as well as possible application of Eni’s experience in carbon capture, use and storage (CCUS) projects.

During the meeting, it was also discussed the progress of Eni and KazMunayGas in implementation of Memoranda of Understanding in the field of energy transition signed in July last year, in particular on renewable energy projects. They also noted the significant potential for the development of wind power in the south-east of Kazakhstan and the need for joint work of investors, Samruk-Energy and the system operator KEGOC to exploit effectively the potential of this region, taking into account investment plans for modernization of the national electric grid. Samruk-Kazyna highly appreciates Eni’s technologies and experience in the field of renewable energy sources and counts on the assistance of Italian partners in working together effectively to develop this area and conduct the necessary expertise.
