Potential technologies that can be used for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan are studied by experts of the project organization of the Samruk-Kazyna Fund - Kazakhstan Nuclear Power Plants LLP. 

Today they went to Turkey, Mersin province on the Mediterranean coast, where the country’s first Akkuyu nuclear power plant is built. The construction of the fourth power unit started there the other day.

The Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed to study the experience of Akkuyu, speaking about the importance of ensuring the energy security of our country. 

Nuclear energy technologies are, as a rule, the cooperation of several states. The Akkuyu  project is also implemented by an international consortium. 

The reactor plant (water-water power reactor) is a development of a subsidiary of the Russian corporation Rosatom - Atomenergomash. The turbines are provided by the French joint venture of Atomenergomash and General Electric.  

Kazakh specialists approached the study of international experience systematically. They have already visited France, which ranks second in the world in terms of the number of nuclear reactors (67% of the country’s electricity is produced at nuclear power plants) and today the government of this country is solving the issues of modernization of the industry. Every third reactor in France is more than 40 years old. 

In addition, Kazakhstan Nuclear Power Plants LLP and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) signed a memorandum of understanding, which will allow applying Korea’s experience in the nuclear power plant project in Kazakhstan. Korean partners provide services from the development of a feasibility study and technical assistance for modification to the construction and operation of nuclear power plants. At the moment, KHNP is building four power units of the Baraka nuclear power plant in the United Arab Emirates.
