Construction of the 1 GW Mirny Wind Farm Launched in Zhambyl Region

A ceremonial time capsule was laid in the Moiynkum District, marking the start of construction of the 1 GW Mirny wind power plant. The event was attended by the leadership of the Fund and its portfolio companies, as well as representatives of the regional administration, TotalEnergies, and other stakeholders.

The project is being implemented as part of the strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and France, with the participation of TotalEnergies and Samruk-Kazyna JSC (Samruk-Energy and KazMunayGas). The total investment is estimated at approximately $1.2 billion.

The plant is scheduled to be commissioned in the fourth quarter of 2028.

“The launch of construction of the Mirny wind power plant marks an important step in advancing Kazakhstan’s modern and sustainable energy sector,” said Nurlan Zhakupov, Head of the Fund, in his remarks.

“This project clearly demonstrates how international partnerships drive investment, enable the adoption of advanced technologies, and support the development of renewable energy. I am confident that its implementation will make a significant contribution to strengthening the country’s energy security and advancing the decarbonization agenda,” he added.
