A solemn ceremony of laying a time capsule in honor of the start of construction of a 1 GW wind power plant with an energy storage system was held in Pavlodar region today. The wind farm will provide the production of environmentally friendly energy using modern storage technologies.
The project is implemented by Samruk-Energy JSC in cooperation with State Power Investment Corporation and will become one of the largest renewable energy facilities in Kazakhstan. The facility is scheduled to be commissioned in 2029.
The total cost of investments is about $1.2 billion. More than 1,000 jobs will be created during the construction period, and about 50 permanent jobs will be created during the operation phase. The project is supported at the intergovernmental level of Kazakhstan and China.
The project provides for the integration of a modern energy storage system with a capacity of 300 MW / 600 MWh, including about 76 liquid-cooled battery packs.
This will smooth out the load and provide a stable supply of electricity even with variable wind generation.
The project is an important step in the development of renewable energy sources in Kazakhstan, Nurlan Zhakupov, Chairman of the Management Board of Samruk-Kazyna JSC noted in his welcoming speech.
“It will not only strengthen the country’s energy security, but also become an example of effective international cooperation and the introduction of advanced technologies”, - he said.
