The U.S. company is a long-standing partner of the Fund and a member of the Foreign Investors’ Council under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Over the past 17 years, Wabtec has become one of the key strategic partners of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy. The company owns the Locomotive Kurastyru Zauyty, which has produced more than 650 locomotives with a total value exceeding USD 3.1 billion. In addition, 42 locomotives have been exported to CIS countries and neighboring markets.
This has been made possible through the Fund’s procurement system, under which KTZ provides the plant with guaranteed purchase volumes. As a result, the necessary conditions have been created to modernize Kazakhstan’s railway industry through technology transfer and production localization. The current localization rate stands at 45%.
The parties also emphasized the importance of implementing the program to deliver 300 locomotives by 2036, as well as continuing efforts to expand the export potential of Kazakhstan’s locomotive manufacturing industry.
Wabtec (Westinghouse Air Brake Technologies Corporation) is a U.S.-based company that manufactures locomotives and equipment for freight and passenger rail transportation.
