Nurlan Zhakupov, CEO of Samruk-Kazyna, met with Luca Vignati, Global Natural Resources Upstream Director of Eni S.p.A.

Nurlan Zhakupov noted that Eni is one of the Fund’s key strategic partners and has made a significant contribution to the development of Kazakhstan’s oil and gas industry over the years.

Together with KazMunayGas, Eni is involved in the development of Kazakhstan’s largest oil and gas fields - Kashagan and Karachaganak. During the meeting, the parties discussed projects aimed at further increasing production.

Particular attention was given to cooperation in the energy sector. The 247 MW hybrid power plant project in Zhanaozen is progressing as planned. The solar power plant has already been commissioned, while the gas-fired power plant is in the final stages of commissioning and is scheduled to come online in the third quarter of this year.

The parties also highlighted Eni’s support for the development of local manufacturing. For the 77 MW wind farm project, the company selected wind turbines manufactured at the plant in Shu, established by Samruk-Kazyna Invest in partnership with SANY Renewable Energy. This supports the development of Kazakhstan’s domestic industry and advances the country’s localization agenda.

Eni is Italy’s largest energy company, operating in more than 80 countries worldwide. The company has been present in Kazakhstan since 1992.
