Nurlan Zhakupov, Chairman of the Management Board of Samruk-Kazyna, chaired a meeting of the Occupational Health, Industrial Safety and Environmental Protection Committee with the heads of the Fund’s portfolio companies.

As Zhakupov noted, every workplace accident is a sign that risks were not identified in a timely manner and that compliance with safety requirements was not adequately monitored.

“Our shared objective is to do everything possible to prevent such tragedies from happening again. This requires more than a formal approach — it demands continuous oversight, personal accountability from managers at every level, and systematic efforts to identify and mitigate risks,” he emphasized.

Gibrat Auganov, Managing Director of Samruk-Kazyna, delivered a report on the state of occupational safety across the Fund’s group of companies. Measures aimed at reducing workplace injuries were also presented by Askhat Khassenov, Chairman of the Management Board of KazMunayGas JSC, and Yelzhas Otynshiyev, Chairman of the Management Board of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC.

Summing up the meeting, Nurlan Zhakupov noted that some safety measures implemented at operational sites continue to be largely formal in nature and fail to deliver tangible improvements. He stressed that some managers still regard safety as the sole responsibility of specialized departments, which is unacceptable.

“Safety is the personal responsibility of every manager,” the Head of the Fund stated.

Following the meeting, the heads of the Fund’s portfolio companies were instructed to strengthen oversight and enhance the systematic implementation of occupational safety measures.
