Chairman of the Management Board of Samruk-Kazyna JSC Nurlan Zhakupov attended the opening of the Oskemen-1 railway station following its reconstruction. Together with East Kazakhstan Region Akim Nurymbet Saktaganov, representatives of the management of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC and railway industry veterans, he toured the upgraded station.

The station was built in 1938. As part of the reconstruction, the old building was completely demolished and a new one was built on the site. Its area has more than doubled, from 858 sq. m to 1,800 sq. m. The station’s engineering systems have been upgraded, the platform has been reconstructed, and the surrounding area has been improved. Modern video surveillance and fire safety systems have also been installed.

“Particular attention has been paid to the station’s safety and accessibility. Elevators, an escalator, lifting platforms and tactile navigation have been provided for passengers with reduced mobility,” Nurlan Zhakupov noted.

The project was implemented by Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC with the support of the Government, Samruk-Kazyna JSC, the Ministry of Transport and the Akimat of East Kazakhstan Region as part of a large-scale programme to modernise the country’s railway infrastructure. In 2026, the reconstruction of 121 of the country’s 124 railway stations is expected to be completed.
